Finn’s Army New Year’s Eve Charity Collection

Back in the midst of a Very Stormy Night we had one of the best NYE party a girl could ask for. On saying this, only about 30 people turned up because the weather was so awful and the new Covid-19 variant has just been announced.

A couple of nights leading up to NYE, the food was being prepared and cooked, DJ was setting up the play lists and the campsite was filling up nicely. We were rocking and ready to go waiting for the crowds to arrive but, then came the announcement of another dreaded lockdown was waited upon from Boris!

Well the lockdown didn’t happen but the people of Cornwall were playing it safe and stayed home. Well I must say I was worried. As a hospitality business we needed the income. Christmas had already succumbed to the Covid 19 pressure with companies not being able to afford Christmas Parties and customers staying home and safe.

However, NYE did have 30 customers and those guys counted! We had to make sure they had a great time. The music boomed, food was eaten and the wine flowed. The whole intent for night was to raise money for Finn’s Army. We collected and ticket donations were added.

Finn’s Army

Finn’s Army is a local charity who’s mission is to bring some light into the lives of very ill and life limited kids in Cornwall via an Ipad lending library in the hospital. They installed a library 7 years ago and are now raising money to replace the old technology with new.

Im really pleased that we were able to raise a massive £250 from NYE despite the weather, Covid and lack of customers.

Jo Mannix, our Lunchtime Front of House Manager was able to go to a charity event in Camborne and hand over the money. Nat Mitchell, representing Finn’s Army was very grateful for the money and said it is going towards the new library.

Weather is Beautiful

The weather in the garden has been beautiful this weekend. A real sign that spring is here and we can enjoy the warm spring sunshine with a good ale in our our hands.

We’ve been putting in new chairs, tidying up the garden and booking more fab events for the rest of the year. Bands, Wedding receptions, Murder mystery nights, VW Fest and Cinema Nights.

The March full moon was an amazing sight to behold. I just couldn’t get a great shot of the reflection rippling over the lake.

The March full moon over the water 2022

This week saw the St Austell family group get together for a roadshow where we could sample new wines, beers and spirits. Courtesy of St Austell Brewery, Jack Daniels, Rattler and Thatchers to name a few. Also show their goods was Brian Etherington, West Country and Roddas creamery. We were able to taste the produce they had brought in. Amazing Duck pizzas from Brian Etherington. Needless to say we are buying in new wine stock and tweaking the menu to include some of these wonderful new products.

Golden Lion Inn Close due to Storm Eunice

Hi All,

So sorry but we have decided to close today because of the storm. Its just too dangerous out there with the high winds. Be and I have been to work today to discover we have no internet or phone lines.

We are very grateful though that we have had minimal damage and not suffered with any powercuts or building damage.

We have nearly lost an awning or two.

Thank you And we’ll be back open as normal tomorrow
